How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser energy is delivered through a small hand piece operated by your Laser Specialist. The laser delivers an intense beam of light, which is absorbed by the skin and converted to heat. The heat is then absorbed by the cells being targeted, while the surrounding tissue remains unaffected. Candela’s patented Dynamic Cooling Device™ (DCD™) ensures that the treatments are comfortable, safe, and effective.

How many treatments will I need?

Laser hair removal procedures impair the growth of hair follicles when they are in the growth cycle at the time of the procedure. There are three phases in a person’s hair growth cycle: Anagen, Catagen, and Telogen. Most clients need a minimum of 5-10 sessions in intervals of every 4 to 8 weeks, providing up to 80% permanent hair reduction. Many factors impact the efficiency of the results: the skill of the laser specialist, type of laser technology and a clients unique known and unknown conditions.

Does it hurt? Are there Side Effects?

Some clients may feel a slight discomfort with each laser pulse, sometimes described like the snapping of rubber band on the skin. This discomfort resolves quickly and is minimized by Candela’s patented Dynamic Cooling Device™ (DCD™). Are there side effects? All treatment results are individual, but most procedures have a low risk of adverse side effects.

How do I prepared for treatment?

Clients should avoid plucking, waxing, or electrolysis for 4-6 weeks prior to treatment. Skin should be clean-shaven and thoroughly cleansed, removing any makeup, creams, oils, topical anesthetics, or selftanning products before treatment. Avoid skin care products with irritants such as Glycolic Acid or RetinA on the treatment area for about a week. Do not expose the intended treatment area to sunlight or tanning booth light prior to or immediately after treatment.

What can I expect after treatment?

A cool compress or aloe vera may be applied for comfort following your treatment. Clients can resume daily activities immediately after treatment. Any redness or swelling should resolve within a few hours. Prevent sun exposure by applying sunblock (SPF 30 or above). In the first few days after treatment, do not scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers.

LASER PREPARATION

Shave area the night before treatment. No waxing, tweezing, or electrolysis or hair bleach to the area being treated 3weeks prior. No fake tan present on areas. Avoid sun exposure in the last 2 weeks prior and always use sun protection.

LASER AFTERCARE

Redness and swelling may occur and generally subsides within hours, but may last longer. For 24 hours post-treatment, avoid shaving, waxing or plucking hair, exfoliation, excessive sweating, swimming or saunas, very hot showers and tight restrictive clothing. Avoid sun exposure for at least 2 weeks after laser hair removal. Wear SPF 30 or higher If uncomfortable post treatment, cool the area regularly using soothing gel.
